HOLISTIC APPROACH
I employ the personal approach of a small town family practice and provide my patients with state of the art chiropractic care.  My professional background is firmly grounded in orthopedics and neurology. After my undergraduate and doctorate work, I completed a three-year post-doctorate course in chiropractic orthopedics. To better understand the needs of my patients with chronic conditions, I maintain board certification in disability and impairment rating as specified by the American Medical Association Guides. I am a fellow with the American Board of Disability Analysts. My personal interest in marathon walking and dance initiated my completion of a post-doctorate course in chiropractic care of sports injuries. There are formidable advances in our understanding of the best diagnostic and conservative treatment approaches for a number of musculoskeletal conditions. Keeping ahead of the curve with continued education gives me the edge required to provide the highest quality care.

CHIROPRACTIC TECHNIQUE
The foundation of my treatment is the chiropractic adjustment of the joint and muscles. I use a state of the art adjusting instrument. The speed and amount of force is calibrated for each joint by microcomputer circuitry. The thrust delivered is faster than the body’s tendency to tighten up and resist the adjustment. Joint mobility is restored and muscular tension is reduced.
WHAT DOES THE ADJUSTMENT FEEL LIKE?
Adjustments with the impulse IQ® adjusting instrument feels like a light tapping sensation on the area that is being treated. In most cases the treatment is painless and after the adjustment many patients feel relief of pain and improved mobility; others report a sense of well-being or a soothing calm feeling. Of course, results vary from case to case and chronic conditions, inflammation or muscle spasms may delay these positive effects.

STRUCTURAL STABILITY
Coaching my patients toward structural stability is my goal. Fundamental to optimizing health is rehabilitation of the injured region with stretching and strengthening exercise. My patient’s healing is facilitated by introducing the correct exercise at the correct time. Our work together will focus on your individual health concerns.

PAIN
Anyone who has endured severe pain understands how wonderful it is to get relief. How the adjustment works is yet to be "scientifically" proven, but research studies consistently find that manipulation of the spine does reduce pain and restore function. Research is beginning to discover what happens when an adjustment is administered, the physiological and structural effects. A study in the British Medical Journal, June 17, 2006, recommends spinal manipulation for low back pain patients. The authors, Koes, et al, reviewed over 1000 randomized controlled trials of all treatments for low back pain. The authors recommended: SPINAL MANIPULATION, STAYING ACTIVE AND MEDICATION, IF NECESSARY.

EXERCISE FOR NON-PATHOLOGICAL, MECHANICAL BACK PAIN
In addition to studies that recommend spinal manipulative therapy, others have also found benefit in therapeutic exercises. The combination of spinal manipulation and therapeutic exercises is more effective than either of the two alone. A few minutes daily with the correct exercises at the appropriate time speeds up healing. Most importantly, this restored stability decreases the likelihood that a new problem becomes a chronic problem area.

CHRONIC PAIN SYNDROME
Fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, post-spinal surgical syndrome, incomplete muscle/ligament/joint healing post-trauma, migraine, temperomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ), reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD)are among the many structural conditions that are best treated comprehensivly.  The best outcome occurs with:

  • Teasing out the factors contributing/causing the condition(s)

  • Examination

  • A treatment plan coordinated with a multidisciplinary approach

  • I love my job. I find it a joyful experience to witness my patients find relief from pain.
